Kogi Govt Invalidates Fraudulent C of Os, Reclaims Illegally Acquired Properties
The Kogi State Government has invalidated all Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) found to have been fraudulently obtained and reclaimed government properties illegally acquired across the state.
The government in a statement through the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed that the action followed a thorough investigation which uncovered widespread irregularities in the processing and issuance of Certificates of Occupancy.
According to the findings, several of the affected C of Os lacked proper documentation, had no corresponding official files, and did not pass through the statutory approval processes. It was further revealed that in some cases, official codes were deliberately misapplied or manipulated in an attempt to bypass established procedures.
The government reiterated that the constitutional authority to sign and validate Certificates of Occupancy in Kogi State rests solely with the Governor, stressing that any C of O issued outside this lawful process is null, void, and of no legal effect. In addition to the cancellation of fraudulent land titles, all government properties acquired through such illegal means have been invalidated and fully reverted to the ownership of the Kogi State Government.
The state government advised individuals and corporate bodies who may have acquired land or government property under questionable circumstances to immediately approach the appropriate authorities to verify the status of such properties. It also warned that anyone found to have participated in the fraudulent issuance of Certificates of Occupancy or the незакон takeover of government assets would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Kingsley Fanwo said the government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of public assets. According to him, the current administration is determined to bring an end to land-related fraud and impunity in the state, declaring that such practices will no longer be tolerated.
