Breaking: Idris HK Picks SDP Form To Contest Kogi East Senate »

Prominent Kogi East businessman, philanthropist and politician, Idris Hussein Kashim, popularly known as Idris HK, has formally picked the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the Kogi East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He obtained the forms shortly after a closed-door strategic meeting with the National Chairman of the SDP on Monday in Abuja.

Idris HK, who hails from Ajaka in Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area, is the Chairman of the Idris HK Foundation. He is widely recognised across Kogi East for his consistent humanitarian interventions, which include the donation of transformers and solar-powered street lights to several communities, the drilling of boreholes, scholarship awards to indigent students, medical outreach programmes, and youth empowerment initiatives.

His recent donation of a 300KVA transformer to Ofakaga community in Ofu LGA, which he personally commissioned on Friday, has further boosted his popularity.

As the major person currently driving development in Kogi East, Idris on Sunday announced the commencement of electrification of Ankpa, one of the largest Local Governments in the region with electricity for about a decade. The project estimated to cost multi-million naira has commenced as he updated his followers on Monday that the funds for the assessment of the electrification has been released, a development one of his aides, Raphael Agalama confirmed in a social media post. The aspirant is actively involved in efforts to improve electricity supply in Ankpa and other parts of Kogi East.

The SDP is expected to conduct its primaries between May 8 and May 27, 2026, with the senatorial primaries scheduled within this window as part of the party’s timetable for the 2027 general elections.

Idris HK’s formal entry into the Kogi East Senate race is expected to significantly heat up political activities in the zone.
