NSCDC Commandant Visits PAAU VC, Applauds Security Initiatives
The Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, has commended the Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, for improved security strategies and sought stronger security collaboration with the University.
He gave the commendation during a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the Vice-Chancellor in his office on Wednesday, 13th May, 2026.
According to the Commandant, the collaboration is aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the Corps and the University, as well as exploring areas of further collaboration to ensure the safety and security of lives and property within and around the University community.
Speaking during the visit, Commandant Ebenezer congratulated Prof. Usman on his appointment, describing it as well-deserved and a reflection of his outstanding performance while serving as Rector of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja.
He described the Vice-Chancellor as humble and unassuming, noting that his leadership qualities had continued to inspire confidence among stakeholders.
The Commandant also commended the Principal Officers of the University and urged them to continue to support the Vice-Chancellor to succeed in his administration.
He expressed appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for appointing Prof. Usman as the Vice-Chancellor, while encouraging him to sustain efforts in improving staff welfare and infrastructural development.
Commandant Ebenezer noted that the visit was historic, as it marked the first time since the establishment of the University that a State Commandant of the NSCDC had paid a visit to the institution.
He assured the Vice-Chancellor of the Corps’ commitment to providing maximum support in the area of campus security and the prevention of crime, stressing that the University remains a critical national asset that must be protected.
He further requested the provision of a patrol vehicle for NSCDC personnel attached to the University to enhance effective monitoring and operational efficiency.
In his response, Prof. Usman expressed profound appreciation to the Commandant for the visit, describing it as a rare honour and a significant gesture, particularly as it was the first of its kind in the history of the institution.
He described his appointment as a homecoming, noting that Prince Abubakar Audu University is where he began his academic career and rose through the ranks before attaining the rank of Professor.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to security, noting that deliberate efforts were already being made to strengthen safety measures across the University.
He acknowledged the request presented by the Commandant and assured him that it would be given due consideration, while reiterating his commitment to supporting initiatives that would enhance campus security.
Prof. Usman also appreciated the continued support of the State Government under His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, particularly in the areas of staff welfare and institutional development.
He urged the Commandant to convey his appreciation to the Governor, noting that the administration had provided the necessary support to enable the University to achieve its goals.
In his words, “I will continue to serve with the fear of God, to the best of my ability, and justify the confidence reposed in me.”
The Vice-Chancellor appealed for sustained collaboration and support from the NSCDC in ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
In his vote of thanks, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the University, Mr. Emmanuel Onuh Attah, appreciated the Commandant and his team for their proactive efforts and continued support to the institution.
He commended the NSCDC personnel attached to the University for their dedication and professionalism, while thanking the delegation for the visit and wishing them a safe return.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a plaque to the NSCDC Commandant by the Vice-Chancellor. The meeting had in attendance Principal Officers of the University.
