Kogi SSA on Human Trafficking Strengthens Partnership with Immigration Service, Sensitizes Staff on Trafficking Risks
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Kogi State Governor on Human Trafficking, Hon. Amodu Avosuahi Patience, has called for stronger inter-agency collaboration in the fight against human trafficking and related crimes in the state.
Hon. Amodu made the call during a courtesy visit to the Office of the Comptroller, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kogi State Command, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Office of the SSA on Human Trafficking and the Nigerian Immigration Service in tackling the growing threat of human trafficking through joint efforts, public awareness and preventive measures.
The engagement also featured a sensitization session on human trafficking themed “Trapped Behind the Scam,” which focused on the deceptive tactics used by traffickers to lure unsuspecting victims.
Speaking during the visit, the SSA on Human Trafficking emphasized the need for sustained inter-agency cooperation to effectively combat trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
She explained that traffickers often deceive their victims with false promises of lucrative employment, quality education, better living conditions and other opportunities, only to subject them to exploitation and abuse.
She therefore urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities that could be linked to human trafficking.
The Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Kogi State Command, welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to combating human trafficking through strategic collaboration with relevant government agencies, stakeholders and community actors.
The Comptroller also stressed the importance of public enlightenment and collective action in preventing human trafficking and ensuring the protection of vulnerable persons.
The delegation included the SSA to the Governor on Internet Fraud Matters, Hon. Oluseyi Kelvin Eleta; SSA to the Governor on Legal Matters, Barr. Yetunde Hamza; and three Volunteer Aides.
The courtesy visit further strengthened the partnership between the Office of the SSA on Human Trafficking and the Nigerian Immigration Service, Kogi State Command, while reaffirming a shared commitment to preventing human trafficking through collaboration, public sensitization and proactive intervention.
The engagement is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of human trafficking and equip individuals with the knowledge needed to identify and avoid trafficking traps.
