Kogi Government Cracks Down on Criminal Hideouts, Clears Illegal Trailer Park

The Kogi State Government has commenced the clearance of an illegal trailer park located at New Zango, Abobo, in Okehi Local Government Area, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen security and curb criminal activities across the state.

Speaking during the operation, the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), disclosed that the exercise was prompted by credible intelligence reports identifying the area as a hideout for criminal elements, a centre for drug trafficking, and a base for other unlawful activities.

According to him, the operation was carried out by a joint security task force comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and other relevant security agencies. The exercise resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of various illicit substances and hard drugs.

Omodara explained that the operation forms part of the state government’s intensified crackdown on crime, following the recent inauguration of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. He noted that operatives of the unit worked in collaboration with other security agencies to secure and clear the area.

The Security Adviser emphasized that the site was never officially designated as a trailer park, adding that all trailers occupying the location have been evacuated. He further revealed that structures identified as potential criminal hideouts within the area would be demolished as part of efforts to prevent a resurgence of illegal activities.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, Omodara stated that Governor Ododo remains resolute in prioritizing the safety and security of residents across the state.

He also commended members of the public for providing timely and credible intelligence, which has continued to support the success of security operations throughout Kogi State.

The Security Adviser recalled that the government had previously issued directives ordering the evacuation of the illegal trailer park, noting that the ongoing exercise represents the enforcement of those directives.
