Contractors handling Kogi projects urged to maintain specifications

The Special Adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello on Project Monitoring, Hon. Usman Ochidi has urged contractors handling various road projects to work within specifications.

Hon. Ochidi made the remark while speaking in an interview with InsideStory in his office in Lokoja.

He said the present administration under the leadership of Governor Bello has standard that must be adhered strictly to by contractors handling Kogi State projects.

The Governor’s aide said the government abhors shoddy jobs and would revoke contracts not done in accordance with specification and stipulated time.

According to him, various communities in the state were beginning to wear a new look through the recent effort of Governor Bello to ensure that contractors were remobilized back to site to complete projects and make transportation easy for the people.

The Special Adviser on Project Monitoring disclosed that the government has a total of fifty-two ongoing road projects, adding that if completed, life would be made easy for the people and eventually boost socio-economic activities in the state.

Hon. Ochidi stressed that the fifty-two road projects were spread across the three senatorial districts of the state, saying that adequate funding had been released by Governor Bello for the projects.

He appealed to the people to be patient with the government, saying that everything was being done within the limit of the State’s resources by Governor Bello to deliver more critical infrastructural to the people.

“Governor Bello is doing his best in the area of infrastructure among others. Most of the noise you are hearing today is because the Governor is from the minority. When Captain Idris Wada was there for 4 years he did nothing for his people. I can authoritative tell you that he is from Dekina and there was no single project that was done in Dekina in his time. I challenge anybody who knows of any to mention it,” he stressed.

Hon. Ochidi assured that Kogi would be a force to reckon with in the next ten to fifteen years as the New Direction Government was working assiduously to reposition the state from the maladministration it had suffered by previous leaders.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) governments from the federal to the state levels are fighting corruption. Don't forget, corruption has a way of fighting back and we must keep faith with the government because it is for our own good and that of our future generation. Some people will even fight you ignorantly, because they don't understand why it is the way it is. Don't blame them.

“When Governor Bello took over, I had a staff who was affected by the screening and was willing to assist get him back on the pay but he opened up and told me sincerely that his documents were forged that I shouldn't bother. These are some of the efforts that will speak for Governor Bello in the nearest future.
