How Kogi NYCN team defeated National Chapter counterpart in novelty encounter

Kogi State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has defeated its counterpart chapters from all parts of the country in a novelty match as part of activities to mark the second Anniversary of Governor  Yahaya Bello administration.

The match was played at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, Saturday.

One goal in each half of the encounter by Comrade Yabagi Bologi and Henry Francis were enough to hand the Kogi State team victory against NYCN team comprising Chairmen of 35 other states of the federation, including the FCT.

The encounter began in a coordinated manner, with the Kogi team showing flare and panache through quick touches which made their visitors uncomfortable as they spent large part of the beginning chasing the ball.

The visitors however gained momentum as the game progressed, thanks to some rusty play from some of the Kogi players.

It was a largely convivial atmosphere, with some members of both teams showing rustiness and lack of fitness, but a well crafted loop from the midfield of the Kogi team, marshalled by Chairman of Forum of Local Coordinators for the council, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu and the current Vice Chairman, East, gifting the ball to Comrade Bologi, who had little to do as he buried a shot in the back the opponent net.

At the restart, the visitors grew in the game as they went in search of an equaliser.

The visiting team therefore began a forage of attacking play, and got rewarded early in the second half,  when one of their players was brought down in the box by a Kogi State player.

For the resultant penalty, a moment of grumbles serenaded through the stands and the sidelines, as the visiting team rewarded the only female council chair in their midst,  Esther Owoeye from Ondo State, who buried the penalty perfectly, leaving the Kogi coordinator, Comrade Oladele John Nihi in goal, rooted to his position.

Moments later, a Messi-esque freekick by Comrade Henry Francis roofed at the top right corner, restored the home team's lead to the applause of spectators and the technical team.

Reacting to their victory, Kogi State Coordinator of NYCN,  Comrade Oladele John Nihi, thanked his colleagues from across the country for the honour done his state.

He said, to him,  the match had no winner or loser,  saying it was in commemoration of the Yahaya Bello government.

While thanking his members of executive and local chapter coordinators and their members of executive for the support accorded him towards the success of the programme, he lauded his colleagues from other states for the cordial relationship existing among them.

He also thanked the present administration in the state for the level of support given the council under him to succeed.

While appealing to the youths of the state to continue to cooperate with the present government to succeed, he said the administration has done a lot for them in several ways,  hence the need to back the Yahaya Bello government.
