KGSG donates over 27 hectares to FG for 100 units Housing in Lokoja

Kogi state government has provided over twenty-seven hectares of land for free to the federal government to facilitate the National Housing project for workers in the state.

Governor Bello who made this known on Thursday at the ground-breaking ceremony of the National Affordable Housing Delivery Programme in Crusher, Lokoja, said the housing project will provide one hundred units of houses for workers.

The Governor while reiterating the willingness of his administration to continue to support noble ventures that will develop the state and make living more comfortable for the masses, called on organizations and investors not to hesitate in investing in Kogi state.

According to him, Kogi state is one of the most secured and peaceful states currently in Nigerian, reassuring the people that their workers and equipment on the site would be safe as they will be working in synergy with security operatives. 

Governor Bello expressed gratitude to Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and the Trade Union of Nigeria (TUC) for chosen Kogi state as one of the pilot states to benefit from the project adding that his government will work assiduously to ensure the people of Kogi state are not disappointed in his leadership.

“My government will continue to change the narratives. We will never cease to partner and encourage efforts that could lead to development. We will not only provide basic amenities. The issue of workers payment is being sorted out and shall become a thing of the past shortly,” he added.

The Managing Director, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa said the one hundred units of houses is a mixture of three, two, and one-bedroom semi-bungalows and block of flats with a focus on affordability and adjustments to suit locational peculiarity.

Arc. Dangiwa said Kogi state was lucky to be one of the two states picked in the North Central Geo-Political zones largely due to its commitment to National Housing Funds (NHF) scheme amongst other reasons.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Bello for promptly facilitating the provision of land for the project as soon as the request got to him, adding that the land was given free of charge to the FMBN in order to reduce the cost of the project and make them more affordable to citizens.

In their separate remarks, the President, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Bobboi Kaigama and the President, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba thanked Governor Bello for being amongst the first Governors to have provided land for the project.

“Workers and the government are partners in progress. We cannot touch lives without providing basic needs like shelter. The quest for development and the welfare of workers are all that the various unions champion and we are happy the issue of housing for our workers will be addressed from this effort,” they said.

Earlier, the Managing Director, MAFAS Engineering Limited, Alhaji Sule Salau assured that their company handling the building contractor is an indigenous company and will do its best to ensure that quality buildings were delivered to the workers.
