KGSG flags off 2018 Measles Campaign


Kogi State Government has restated its commitment towards the eradication of Child killer diseases in the state, including Measles.

   

Wife of the State Governor, Hajiya Rashida Bello made the promise on Wednesday while commissioning the 2018 Measles Vaccination Campaign at the Family Resource Centre (FAREC), GRA, Lokoja.

The Governor’s wife was represented at the event by the Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Health, Mrs. Grace Tokura.

Hajiya Rashida stated that the present administration has since its inauguration, made the health of the citizens his priority, noting that as a parent, the Governor would not waver in his commitment towards ensuring that children of the state get the best healthcare provision that they could get.   

On his part, the state commissioner for Health, Dr. Saka Haruna Audu reiterated the commitment of government towards eradicating measles and other child killer diseases in the state.

He thanked the governor for paying his counterpart funding, stating it was a demonstration of the determination of the Governor to ensuring he provided the people of the state with quality health service.

Dr. Saka said the state government targets about 100, 000 children statewide, and called on parents and caregivers to avail their wards the opportunity to be vaccinated.

The health commissioner noted that the administration had shown demonstrable commitment to the healthcare needs of the citizens.

Earlier in an address, Dr. Abubakar Yakubu had described measles as a deadly disease that has been wrecking havoc on the lives of children, hence government’s commitment towards eradicating it.

As a contagious disease that affects children of less than five years and a leading cause of mortality among children with incubation period of ten days which spread fast.

He mentioned the symptoms of the disease to include high fever, running nose, sneezing, loss of appetite, redness of the eye among others, adding that the rapid spread of measles is usually resultant from crowdedness of an environment.

On his part, the country representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Alemu Wondimagegnehu applauded the efforts of the present administration of Yahaya Bello for its steadfastness in offsetting its counterpart funding on regular basis.

He was particular about the commitment of government of Yahaya Bello at providing effective leadership in the state through concerted guidance to the Ministry of Health, the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, line ministries and local government areas.

Dr. Wondimagegnehu who was represented by Pharm Kennedy Adejoh, therefore thanked the state government for providing needed support in all ramifications, and urged for continuous support to the world body for them to be able to expedite action on action and other killer diseases.
