KGSG promises to tap opportunities of Cattle Ranches

Kogi State Government has stressed its determination to maximize the opportunities the Cattle Colony, proposed by the Federal Government, has in the best interest of its citizens.
Governor Yahaya Bello made the remark in Lokoja, Friday at the 2018 Agricultural Summit organized by the government and the State Ministry of Agriculture as part of activities to commemorate the administration’s Second Year Anniversary in office.
Bello said the cattle colony would afford citizens the opportunity to learn Cattle cross breeding, exploit available dietary products and organic and inorganic fertilizer for improving soil fertility, amongst others.
He explained that the opportunity would also boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the state and enhance the socio-economic well being of the people.
He therefore called on the people of the state to ignore negative assertions from some quotas over the matter as he would not open his eyes and watch while his people suffer.
The Governor who called on the people to shun the campaign of calumny being propagated against its establishment by some individuals, appealed to the people to tolerate herdsmen in the state.
'We have to develop the culture of tolerance because under this administration, we have decided to look at ourselves as one. It is only through peace and unity that we can develop as a people,' he added.
While calling on the people of the state to support the initiative, the Governor assured them that the initiative was capable of rapidly transforming the economy of state within six months.
The governor reiterated his administration's readiness to continue to boost agriculture and food security in line with President Muhammudu Buhari's Agricultural Transformational Policy.
“There is money in agriculture, our women and youths, need to key into agriculture. As a government, we will continue to do our best to partner with the Federal Government and Foreign Investors to ensure that Kogi is never the same in the area of Agricultural initiative before we leave the office.”
On his part, the Commissioner for Finance, Idris Asiwaju noted that there was need to diversify the economy, and called on private investors to come to the state to invest with a new way of thinking.
Asiwaju said the state has all the required human and capital resources and that investments were save, because the government has done a lot in the area of security to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Speaking, one of the Consultants on Agriculture, Mr. Chyka Okafor who spoke on Cassava Value Chain Development said Kogi State was one of the largest producers of cassava and Cashew Nuts in the Country.
Mr. Okafor urged the state government to develop a business plan that would ascertain the number of individuals that visit the state to buy products.
