KGSG to empower 700 youths through agric

Kogi State government has said over 700 youths in the state would be empowered in new agricultural schemes across its 21 Local Government Areas.
The Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Hon Kingsley Fanwo, made the revelation while briefing newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council Meeting in Government House, Lokoja, Wednesday.
The Director General said Kogi State Ministry of Agriculture would open up land in seven Local Government Areas in the state to ensure the utilisation of seven different Empowerment Schemes through Agricultural initiatives.
This scheme, the DG stressed, is expected to go round the 21 Local Government Areas of the state and would come on stream before the end of the year.
He noted the commitment of government towards ensuring that its promise of feeding the entire nation through the Omi Kampe Dam Rice Mill became a reality in no distant time, and promised that the Rice would hit the market by December this year.
Hon Fanwo, who said the administration is doing all it can to diversify the state’s economy, increase the Internally Generated Revenue, empower the youths, create wealth and ensure value chain, added that agriculture would remain priority to the present administration in the state.
On the state civil service, the Director General said Governor Bello has reiterated his commitment to good governance in the state and as such, is committed to using the reformed and disciplined civil service, and reposition it towards achieving his New Direction Agenda for the people of Kogi state.
“Part of the mechanisms put in place to enable the government achieve this, is the clock-in, clock-out system in the civil service,” he said, adding, “His Excellency reiterated the determination of his administration to follow through the scheme,” he said.
He therefore added that any civil servant who has been captured but refused to clock-in or clock-out, would not be captured in the payroll of the state, saying that the device would be deployed across the state, including all the MDAs; even people in out-stations to ensure that everybody is captured.
In another development, the state government has revealed that it would employ more social workers through the Head of the State Civil Service to reduce social menace in Kogi State.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon (Mrs) Comfort Alege said the administration would be assisting people with psychological problems by removing them from the streets of the state capital.
To this end, the administration would be establishing a Rehabilitation Centres to rehabilitate many of the physical challenges.
