President Buhari commits N 3 trillion to infrastructural development since 2015

The present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has committed well over N 3 trillion to infrastructural upgrade in Nigeria since ascension to power in 2015, the Federal Government has said.

Minister of State II for Works, Power and Housing, Surveyor Suleiman Hassan Zannah, made the statement on Tuesday in Lokoja when he paid a working visit to Kogi state government.

He promised the determination of the administration to sink more funds in the sector when the 2018 budget is signed into law.

The visit,  he said, was part of the ministry's tour of roads and other capital projects across the country to assess activities of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing in the North Central geopolitical zone.

He said the exercise would take his ministry round all the states of the federation because the present government is working so hard to ensure the development of the nation's infrastructure, but that little was being said about its efforts.

He said; “It is the promise of President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver massive infrastructure to the Nigerian people because the developmental challenges being faced in the country can largely be traced to deficit in infrastructure.

“The government is committed towards delivering on its vow for turning around the country's fortune in physical infrastructure which President Buhari considers critical to the overall development of the nation.”

“Thank God government has received the SUKUK Bond which is a demonstration of investors confidence in the administration because even though $ 100 billion was requested, it got $ 105 billion.

He said the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari promised incremental power and power generation and distribution has increased from the three thousand megawatt that it met to over seven thousand megawatt being generated and over five thousand being transmitted.

The minister thanked the government of Kogi State for its continuous collaborative efforts with the ministry, which he said has eased the determination of the Federal Government towards entrenching the projects that would bring about socioeconomic development of the nation.

He described Kogi as the state that is collaborating with the federal ministry of Work, Power and Housing effectively and efficiently, and urged other states in the country to take a cue.

Surveyor Zannah said the overwhelming support of Kogi State Government has made it possible for substantial completion of Kogi side of the road contract projects that have been awarded.

In his remarks, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, lauded the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its deliberate efforts toward improving the nation's infrastructure, saying no nation can develop without improved physical infrastructure.

Governor Bello raised the issues of other federal roads in the state, including the Okene-Kabba-Ilorin and the Lokoja-Ajaokuta-Anyigba roads which he said have become death traps and appealed for a look in for them by the Federal ministry.

He also called on the Federal Government to take a second look at the Nsukka-Abuja road project that has been abandoned, saying if completed, would ease traffic from the eastWenatchee part of the country to the Federal Capital and the northern part.

The Governor who was represented by the state Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba promised the Federal Government of the preparedness of the administration towards further collaborative efforts that would bring about the socioeconomic development of the country.
