UEFA Appoints Turkish Referee for Chelsea VS Barcelona Game

By Onogwu Muhammed

Turkish referee Cüneyt Çakir has been designated by UEFA the man in charge to officiate Tuesday's Champions League last 16 first leg tie between Chelsea and FC Barcelona at Stamford Bridge (20.45 CET start).

The 41-year-old Çakir was also the man in the middle when both sides met in the 2011/12 semi-final second leg at Camp Nou where a 2-2 draw was enough to see the men from South West London stake aplace in the final after a 1-0 scoreline secured at Stamford Bridge.

The Turk also oversaw the 2015 Berlin final when Barcelona overcame Serie A side Juventus to claim a 3-1 win in Berlín.

Romanian referee Ovidiu Hategan will oversee the other game of the night when Bayern Múnich and Besiktas go head-to-head at the Allianz Arena (20.45 horas)
