The Omi Asuku water project was commissioned on Sunday 6th of February, 2022 at Agóh Quarters in Ayegunle Gbede Community. The project was facilitated by the Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor on Youth Empowerment (West), Hon. Ibikunle Amodu Abubakar through personal fund raising and goodwill donations by well meaning individuals to commemorate the birthday celebration of Hon. Ibikunle Amodu Abubakar on 10th December 2021.

For the commissioning, the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Pharm. Jamiu Abdulkareem Asuku was to chair event but was unavoidably absent due to higher demands. He was ably represented by Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resource, Hon. Danga Abdulmumuni.

In the opening remark of Hon. Abubakar, he appealed to Kogi State Government through the representative of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Danga Abdulmumuni to provide more portable water supplies for the good people of Ayegunle Gbede Community, and also help heal the current epileptic power supply faced by his people; as businesses and other means of livelihoods has been greatly affected due to lack of stable power supply.

Hon. Danga while responding to the requests of Hon. Abubakar, commended him for facilitating the water project for his community. He then promised extension of the borehole with two septic tanks to other parts of the community, and also promised a new borehole within Ayegunle Gbede or any community as directed by Hon. Abubakar.

Hon. Danga promised to put good words across to the Chief of Staff for a transformer to be allocated to the community in no distant time.

Thereafter, the Commissioner for Water Resource made a quick stop at Nilo Dam, a Water Dam on the tributary of Eba River in Ayegunle Gbede and meant to serve three communities of Ayegunle Gbede, Iyah Gbede, and Ayetoro Gbede.

The Dam was initially constructed in 1984 but was rehabilitated and commissioned in 2017 by Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello. The facility since commissioning has not been put to use as it lacks adequate manpower and technical staff.

The Hon. Commissioner directed the Special Assistant to the Governor on Water Resource, Hon. Adesayo Ismail Yahaya who is also from Ayegunle Gbede and a frontier of the project, to form a committee that will work harmoniously to restore the Dam and return waters back to its pipelines and the beneficiary communities.

As promised by the Commissioner, our findings shows that quotations for the two stanchion extension to be facilitated by the Ministry of Water Resource has already been submitted for approval awaiting work on selected project sites.

This is to appreciate Hon. Ibikunle Amodu Abubakar for facilitating this project, there by restoring the Government presence back to his community.
