Ankpa Council Chairman Welcomes Over 100 Defectors from SDP to APC

The Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Area, Engr. Ademu Mohammed Yahaya, on Monday officially received over one hundred former members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Okenyi, the political hub of Ankpa Ward 2.
The decampees, led by Hon. Ahmed Sanni, a former candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the House of Representatives who later joined the SDP and was a major player in the 2023 Kogi Governorship race, formally declared their defection to the APC during a well-attended event.
While receiving the new members, Engr. Ademu commended their decision, describing it as a clear testament to the APC’s growing acceptance and the party’s reputation for transparency and honest leadership across the country.

“The return of these members to the APC confirms our party’s credibility and strength. We are a party built on integrity, and our doors remain open to all who seek progressive governance,” he said.
He assured the new members of equal status within the party, emphasizing that they would enjoy the same rights and privileges as existing members in all party activities and leadership considerations.

Engr. Ademu urged both old and new party faithful to continue working towards the collective success of the APC at all levels, declaring, “With this kind of unity and strength, our party remains unshaken and ready for victory at any time.”
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mohammed, the Zonal Security Adviser (Ankpa Federal Axis) to the Kogi State Governor, praised the massive defection, noting that the move significantly weakens the opposition’s presence in the area.
Also present at the event was Hon. Abdullahi Mukhtar, former NNPP candidate for the Ankpa I State Constituency, who equally announced his defection to the APC.
Speaking on behalf of the new entrants, Hon. Ahmed Sanni said their decision to join the APC was inspired by the outstanding performance of the current administration in Ankpa, particularly the impactful leadership of Engr. Ademu, which he said has rendered the opposition obsolete in the area.

“We believe the APC is the only platform that offers real hope and direction, and we are ready to contribute to its continued success,” he added.
A symbolic presentation of APC brooms, the party’s emblem to the defectors served as the highlight of the event.
