Kogi APC begins guber screening, clears Bello

The committe set up by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday began its assignment at the state party secretariat in Lokoja by screening some of the aspirants ahead of the party’s primary election.

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello who was the first to be screened, expressed satisfaction with the exercise, describing the process as peaceful and orderly.

“I have been successfully cleared. You can see there is no harassment of any form.”

“I was able to respond to all the questions asked to the best of my ability. Let the best man emerge. Who ever emerges, we will work together.”

Governor Bello who was seen in a warm embrace and handshakes with other aspirants said he bore no grudges against anyone and was ready to work with who ever emerges.

The chairman of the seven-member committee Senator Hope Uzodinma said the party constituted the screening committee in an effort to scrutinize and screen the candidates properly.

“The proper screening of candidates would avoid a situation where the party would not lose candidates again,” he added.

Senator Uzodinma who said that party was more interested in producing a candidate that could coast home to victory for the party, urged the aspirants to inhibit the spirit of sportsmanship, unite and work with the aspirant that would eventually becomes the party’s standard bearer in the party’s interest.

The idea behind screening aspirants at the state party secretariats from reports was to move the party’s activities closer to the aspirants in their locality.

The screening which is scheduled for today and tomorrow, August 23 for all the aspirants to be screened had 10 of them present to be screened out of the 16 who purchased the normination forms.
