Armed Forces Remembrance Day: ‘let’s honor our fallen heroes by living in harmony’ – Ibaji LG Chairman

The Executive Chairman of Ibaji Local Government Council, Hon William Iko-Ojo, has called on the people of the area to embrace peace at all times in order to attract meaningful development. He made the call when speaking at this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day at Onyedega, Ibaji Local Government Headquartres.

Hon Iko-Ojo said the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces fought for the unity and peace of the country and are worthy to be nationally remembered not only at the Remembrance Day but also by instilling their motivating core values of peace.

“Our fathers made compromises and sacrifices to build a viable country where progress and peace will reign supreme. We should therefore imbibe those virtues in order for us to make progress”, he said.

He called on the people of Ibaji to eschew acts of fighting among themselves as it would only result in underdevelopment.

Hon Iko-Ojo louded the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for his unwavering effort towards a crime-free Kogi State and pledged the full support of Ibaji for his administration.

The Ejeh and Chairman of Ibaji Traditional Council, Ajofe John Egwemi, who also spoke at the event lent his voice to the call for peace in Ibaji.

In a remark, The Legion Leader in Ibaji,Mr Benjamin Ameh expressed appreciation to the Chairman and implored
him to involve them in the security activities of the area. He also sought the empowerment of the widows of the fallen soldiers to put smiles on the faces of their dependants.

Highlight of the event was the laying of wreaths by the Executive Chairman, the Traditional Council Chairman, the Legion Leader among other dignitaries.

Other dignitaries in attendance include Councillors, Supervisory Councillors, Senior Special Assistants, security agents, Nigerian Legion, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.

Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an annual event to honour those who lost their lives in the course of discharging the duties of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria. It is also a day to remember their families and the loved ones they left behind.
