The Kogi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed Engineer Abubakar Ohere as commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The screening and confirmation held at the Kogi assembly complex on Thursday in Lokoja the state capital.

Until his confirmation by the legislative arm of the Kogi State Government, Engineer Ohere was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

This confirmation has increased the number of commissioners in the state from sixteen (16) to seventeen (17).

The Kogi Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole who said that “the newly confirmation commissioner has paid his dues” told members to allow him take a bow, explaining to them how Engineer Ohere has served selflessly as SA in the cabinet of Governor Yahaya Bello before the need for his elevation.

According to Hon. Kolawole, “Engineer Ohere is familiar with the Kogi political terrain and has been seen to be committed, tenaciously promoting government’s policies down to the rural areas.”

One would say that the rise of Engineer Abubakar Ohere from Special Assistant to Commissioner did not come as a surprise, as he has meticulously served the people, initiating programmes that have had direct bearing on the lives of the people.

One of the greatest achievements of the ministry being spearheaded by him was the recent upgrade/grading of a total number of three hundred and fourteen (314) age long traditional rulers who were stagnant on the throne for decades.
