Aftermath of the Kogi governorship election and the victory of the incumbent, the committee inaugurated by Governor Yahaya Bello for the accelerated electrification of Kogi East also known as ‘Project Power Kogi East’ today convened a meeting to deliberate the continuation of the project.

The meeting which was held in the office of the Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja who is also the chairman of the committee, had in attendance representative of the Attah Igala, HRM, Dr. Idakwo Michael Ameh Oboni II, local government administrators from Kogi East, representative of Aedc among others.

Chairman of the committee, Chief Edward Onoja while welcoming the members from the election break urged them to double efforts in ensuring that they make up for lost time.

He said aside the election, the weather condition also contributed to the slow pace of the project because many communities in Kogi East were swampy, making it difficult to be accessed. He went further to say that with the election and wet season over, the committee now has an opportunity to cover more grounds.

The committee directed all local government administrators in Kogi East to provide detailed breakdown of power conditions on a ward by ward basis, this the committee said would help in prioritizing communities that would be in the first phase.

Onoja said the governor values the project so much and he is very much committed to ensuring it’s completion, reason why it was included in the 2020 budget proposal before the state house of assembly.

“this is a project that is very dear to the governor even before he assumed office, and he is committed to breaking the age long jinx by providing power to the people of Kogi East because he knows that power is the foundation for rapid development.

“He has included it in the 2020 budget and he is very much committed to its execution”.

The committee assured that at least 100 communities will be powered in the first phase of the project.
