Election: Onoja concludes ‘Thank-you’ tour, says govt will fulfill campaign promises

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja, on Friday assured people of Kogi East that they would not regret electing the APC for another four year term.

Onoja said that the APC-led administration in the state was committed to fulfilling all it’s campaign promises and assured of greater development in the land.

He gave the assurance in Ankpa Local Government Area during the continuation of his two day thank-you tour to appreciate the electorates for re-electing Yahaya Bello as governor.

According to Onoja, the government is committed to the overall development of Kogi East and seeks the support of everyone in achieving this desire.

While appreciating the warm support given to him by the people of Kogi East, the Deputy Governor said the visit was in fulfilment of his promise during campaigns, to revisit and thank them if the governor was re-elected into office.

He said the election has come and gone and there was the need to appreciate the people for their support throughout the process.

Onoja reiterated that the just concluded election was a political exercise between political parties, saying that there was no need for the Igala people to feel defeated because it was still the Igala people in the APC that defeated other Igala people in the PDP. “it was purely a political party affair”.

Onoja said Kogi East maintains her majority status in the state, a status which he said was used to reelect Governor Yahaya Bello back to office.

He said although APC didn’t win Ankpa local government, the governor was appreciative of the votes the party scored in the area. Hence, Ankpa as a commercial hub and indeed the entire Kogi East remains on the priority list of the government to develop.

Onoja said the people of Kogi East should hold their heads high for contributing immensely to the establishment of a new order, an order of development for the people of Kogi East.

Receiving the Deputy Governor at his palace, the Onu Ankpa, HRH, Alhaji Abdulmalik Umar expressed the gratitude of people in the area for the visit.

He applauded Onoja’s relentless efforts in providing Ankpa Local Council with the needed development which ha said was a source of worry for decades.

The monarch said Ankpa local government contributed hugely to the establishment of APC in Kogi State through the role it played in 2015, and promised they will continue to support the government to achieve its developmental plans for the state.

While in Anguwa, the Chief Imam of Ankpa central mosque said they felt honored and gladdened by the visit as it shows how important government regards the ordinary citizens.

He applauded the government for her drive in uniting the people of the state and said the reelection was a spur on the government to do more.

The cleric prayed God to grant wisdom to the deputy governor and his boss as they pilot the affairs of the state in their second tenure.

The Onu Egume, HRH, Etila Ajeka, while receiving the Deputy Governor in his palace said he was impressed by the decision to go round and to say thank you to the people after the election, saying that only a leader with the good of the people in mind would do such.

He lamented how previous governments neglected Egume after getting their votes, but expressed optimism that the visit of the Deputy Governor bears glad tidings to the people.

In his remark, the Deputy Governor whose wife is from Egume, appreciated the people for their hospitality and support.

He said some desperate politicians made attempt on the life of his wife during the last election and in the process injured two people, one of whom is from Egume. He however, said that would not dampen their spirit as the government of Yahaya Bello is committed to bringing more development to Igala land.

The Deputy Governor assured that government’s developmental projects will spread to Egume in their second tenure, saying that after the Anyigba and Dekina township roads, Egume should naturally be in line for a similar project.

He also promised to give a face-lift to the palace of the mornach to make it more befitting.

The Deputy Governor later paid a condolence visit to the family of late Mrs. Asibi, the APC women leader for Ofu local government who died earlier today after a brief illness.

He promised government’s support to the children of the deceased.
