Flood: Kogi First Lady, Rashida Bello Visits IDP Camps, Donates Cash, relief materials

Flood disaster has ravaged various states in Nigeria and Kogi state has been described as the most affected among other states in Nigeria. The Flood has displaced thousands of people from their homes and farms, resulting in the loss of properties worth millions of naira.

To alleviate the suffering of the flood victims, the First Lady of Kogi State has visited IDP camps across the state with relief materials.

Flood victims camping in Idah and Ibaji local government areas of Kogi State expressed gratitude to the state Governor’s wife, Mrs Rashida Bello, for her prompt response to their call for more government intervention in the plight of flood victims in the area.

Mrs Rashida Bello, accompanied by Hon Victor Adéwale Omofaiye, Commissioner for Environment, Hon Fatima Kabir Buba Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development,
Commodore Jerry Omadara SSA to the governor on Security and other top government functionaries, assured the victims that the government and people of the state are with them every step of the way, adding that she personally understands their current plight.

She guaranteed the victims that they would receive all necessary assistance while still at the centre, adding that the government is doing everything possible to ensure their well-being is catered for.

The First Lady noted that it is the responsibility government to make life easy for its people, and that her husband, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, is doing everything possible to alleviate the people’s suffering.

In his response, Chairman of Idah local government area, Hon. Abu Odoma
thanked Mrs Rashida Bello, for her visit to the IDP camp in Idah noting that it was such a relief to him and the entire community because the victims have been reassured that the state government is not only responsive, but also proactive in meeting the needs of the people. He noted that this is not the first time the area has been flooded, but it is the first time such a kind gesture has been shown to them.

He expressed profound gratitude to Kogi state government for its efforts to making life more comfortable for the victims of this year’s devastating flood stressing that it is an horrible experience to be displaced from ones home by any disaster.

At Ibaji, Hon David Eganeyi stated that the Governor’s wife’s visit to Ibaji IDP camp is yet another indication that Kogi State has a leader who not only works hard but also pays attention to the opinions of the people and their representatives while appreciating Mrs Rashida for her visit and assistance.

The donation of several items by Mrs Rashida Bello included cash, foodstuffs, medical consumables and non-consumables, blankets, wrappers, beverages and other palliatives.
