POHAN Mourns Former Kogi Governor Ibrahim Idris, Hails Public Service Legacy

The Public Office Holders Association of Nigeria (POHAN) has mourned the death of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, describing his passing as a loss to Kogi State and Nigeria.
Idris died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, aged 77. He served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012.
In a statement signed by POHAN National President, Bashorun MD Eseyin, Ph.D., the association said the former governor made notable contributions to public service and the development of the state during his years in office.
POHAN said Idris was regarded by many as “Baba Kogi”, a title it said reflected his years of service and contributions to the state.
The association identified infrastructure, education and healthcare among the sectors in which it said the late governor’s administration made contributions to Kogi State.
“POHAN recognises and commends the contributions of the late former Governor to public service and the development of Kogi State. His years in office formed an important chapter in the State’s developmental history,” the statement said.
The association, which advocates effective and efficient public service delivery in Nigeria, said Idris left a legacy of service that would continue to be remembered by the people he served.
POHAN expressed condolences to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the state government and people of Kogi State, as well as the deceased’s immediate family, children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and associates.
The association said it drew solace from Idris’ record of public service and prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
“May Almighty Allah grant his family, the Government and people of Kogi State the fortitude to bear this monumental loss,” POHAN added.
