Something is definitely off about the Kogi State Social Democratic Party and it’s governorship candidate, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka as it appears that fake news peddling is the major, if not the only tool available to them in the quest to occupy the Lugard house in 2024.

Certainly, before being sworn in as governor of Kogi state comes the very important factor of the November 11 governorship election which the SDP candidate is displaying unbridled desperation to win, even through falsehood peddling, malicious characters assassination and incitement. But it appears that every sinister move he makes is being exposed even before take off.

Demonstrating expectation or acceptance of failure, the SDP candidate, through the party’s campaign council director of New Media, I. D Ijele, recently accused INEC of configuring Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines at the Government House, Lokoja, to manipulate the state governorship election.

The same SDP’s Ajaka through the spokesperson of the campaign council, Farouk Adejoh-Audu, made a quick U-turn and apologized for spreading falsehood fews days after being exposed.

This is just one of the many lies of Yakubu Ajaka. They lie to the people of Kogi East, masquerading their saltfish agenda in a deceptive “Igala Agenda” and addressing the Ebiras as a “common enemy”. They also lie on law enforcement agencies with the intention of evading justice over several violence perpetrated, especially the killing of one Khadijat Yahaya, a member of the APC in Koton-karfe. Sometimes they go as far as staging violence on themselves and falsely blame it on others just to get sympathy.

There have always been genuine concerns from critical minds, including civil society organizations who criticized the SDP candidate, even if their concerns have been drowned out by the oohs and aahs of some hired guns. But today, the most dire warnings are coming from the election umpire and security agencies who have in their own words accused Ajaka of “undermining security efforts”.

The SDP’s Ajaka is banking on old form of electioneering strategy to steal people’s mind but with advancement in technology, it becomes difficult as it now requires just a click on the internet or a simple phone call to verify claims.
