Gov. Bello assents to 10 bills, targets improved IGR across LGAs

…signs Kogi State free Examination Registration fees into law

The Kogi state Governor, yahaya Bello has signed ten bills presented to him on Wednesday by the Kogi State House of Assembly into Law, prominent of which were laws targeted at improving the Internally Generated Revenue portfolio of the state across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Governor assented to a law to repeal the Kogi state Internal Revenue Administration, Harmonisation of Taxes, Duties, Levies Rate, Fees and charges due to the state and revenue appeal tribunal law 2017 and to re enact the revenue administration and other matters connected therewith Law, 2024

Others with regards to the Local government Administrations were Laws to make provision for the Revenue and Expenditure of all the Twenty-One (21) Local Government Areas of Kogi State for the year ending 31st December, 2024 and other matters connected therewith, 2024 as well as making provision for Supplementary Appropriation of the Twenty-One (21) Local Government Areas of Kogi State for the year ending 31st December, 2023 and other matters connected therewith, 2023.

The governor also signed Laws to Establish College of Education (technical) Mopa, Kogi State and other matters connected therewith Law, 2024, provide for Kogi State free Examination Registration fees Law and other matters connected therewith Law, 2024, repeal and re-enact the Kogi State Area Court Law, 1991 and other matters Connected therewith, 2024, enact the Kogi State Animal Disease Control and other matters connected therewith, 2024, Provide for the Enactment of the Kogi State Land Use Charge and other matters connected therewith, 2024, amend the Kogi State Sheria Court of Appeal Law, to Establish Feeder Courts in strengthening the proceedings and other matters connected therewith, 2024 and a law to amend the Magistrate Courts Law of Kogi State, 2020 and other matters connected thereto.

Speaking in a brief address, the governor expressed confidence that the implementation of the laws signed and other previous ones would surely ensure that kogi state never remained the same again with regards to positive benefits from these laws.

He added that he was looking forward to a situation where the state would not have to depend on the revenue allocation from the federation account to be able to finance its budget and improve on our lives and livelihood but rather an improved internally generated revenue that would be adequate to achieve the state’s developmental plans.

Earlier the speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt Honourable Aliyu Umar Yusuf, hinted that the legislative arm remain poised to aid the executive arm to fast tract its growth and developmental plans in the interest of the state and its entire people.
