IWD 2022: Rashida Bello Advocates Increased Women Participation in Governance

In commemoration of the year 2022 International Women’s Day, the Kogi State First Lady and Founder Rashida Bello Foundation, Her Excellency, Mrs Rashida Yahaya Bello has stressed the need for active involvement of women in governance and decision making processes.

A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to Her Excellency, Mr Victor Okee has further emphasized the need for governments at all levels as well as other relevant stakeholders to create the enabling environment for the socio-political and economic advancement of women.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day; “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” Mrs Bello enjoined everyone to celebrate Women’s achievements and efforts at creating a sustainable future for all.

“Let us renew our commitments towards achieving a world free of bias, stereotypes and gender discrimination,” She says.

While noting with a deep sense of pride the actualization of the 35% women affirmative action in Kogi State today, Mrs Bello commended the courage and resilience of women in various leadership positions across the State and the nation in general.

According to the statement, the Kogi State First Lady reminds us all that today’s event calls for a deep reflection on the many challenges faced by women throughout their lives and the terrible consequences on their children, noting that every woman deserves better life free of discrimination, violence and bias.
