The Kogi State Government has inaugurated a 20-Man selection committee for the Federal Government’s Special Public Works initiative.

The Committee is saddled with the responsibility of selecting 21,000 skilled and unskilled persons who would engage in various selected project fairly distributed across all wards and LGAs between October and December.

Kogi State Governor represented by his Deputy, Edward Onoja while inaugurating the selection committee noted that the members were carefully selected based on their antecedents to ensure a proper and even selection and implementation of the initiative.

He hailed the Federal Government for approving such initiative which he asserted would revitalize the maintenance culture of the citizens and add succor to the lives of beneficiary who has largely been affected by pandemic.

He urged stakeholders to observe and identify young people who are dutiful and selfless so as to give them leverage when other opportunities emerge.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Joseph Afolabi noted that the committee was aware of the enormous and sensitive responsibility to carefully and transparently select 1,000 citizens from the 21 Local Government Area of the State.

He however assured the FG, State Government and the people of the sate of the committee’s readiness and commitment to diligently carry out the assignment to the best of their abilities

Mr. Afolabi asserted that the committee is charged with the responsibilities to ensure even representation of persons; identify, select and compile special public works; develop and coordinate areas of collaboration with state and LGAs ; ensure proper and successful implementation and ensure strict compliance with the given guidelines.

The Committee is made up of the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, State Government representative, traditional rulers, market woman leader, Religious leaders, leadership of Road Transport youth representatives, Civil Society Organisation and representative of Academic institutions in the state.
