KGSG moves to standardize parks, decongest roads in Lokoja

As part of move to decongest traffic in Lokoja the state capital, Kogi State Government has okayed the use of the Lokoja Mega Terminal and immediate rehabilitation of Ganaja Junction Motor park to accommodate more vehicles.

With this action, the state government says scattered parks littered around Lokoja would be centralised so that loaders would move into these centralised parks to cater to travelers going to various parts of the state and other parts of the country.

Insidestoryng exclusively learnt that Kogi State government wants road transport workers to encourage passengers to go into the new parks to board vehicles going their various destinations rather than endangering the live of travelers and causing inconveniences for other road users.

The Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Honorable Edward Onoja who toured the road earlier this morning said that Ganaja road is a mojor pathway connecting travelers from the northern part of the country to the south.

He then lamented the level of neglect being suffered by the area despite being a federal road, the state government had through the ministry of works begun erosion control through the reconstruction of drainages along the road in preparation for its proper reconstruction as approved by the federal government through Order E07.

“When rehabilitated, it will ease vehicular movement”. Onoja said.

The Chief of Staff had commissioned a team comprising of the ministry of environment, ministry of works, VIO and the state traffic enforcement agency to begin sensitization on motorists and businesses owners in that area in order to make the transition easy for all concerned.

He also called on the leadership of the Ganaja Junction Motor Park to join in the awareness to discourage illegal parking along the road which is a major highway.

On his part, the commissioner for works, Sadiq Abdulmumin who conducted the Chief of Staff on the tour said KOGROMA has concentrated on the bad portions of the road to mitigate the hardship of travelers, and assured that erosion control and other work will commence in the park immediately to allow it accommodate more vehicles.
