KGSG tasks NURTW to assist in info gathering for safer state
Kogi State Government has tasked members of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW) to assist it in swift gathering of credible information that would ensure it nips security threats in the bud.
The Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja made the assertion on Thursday in Lokoja when he played host to the newly elected leadership of the union in his office.
Chief Onoja told his guests that the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello was a man that has invested so much in the state security architecture because of his love for peace and unity of citizens and urged the NURTW to always keep their ears to the ground from their garages, parks and highways as they travel to various parts of the state and the country.
The Deputy Governor reminded them that the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is a registered member under the National Association of Road Transport Owner (NARTO) unit and thus has interest in the welfare and activities of members.
He described the NURTW as critical stakeholders in the scheme of things, adding that unlike how the union’s elections were held in other parts of the country leaving threads of bloodshed in their wake, that of the state held without any form of breakdown of law and order which is testament to the safety of lives and property under Governor Bello.
Chief Onoja then charged members of the Union to ensure unity and success of the new administration by giving constructive criticisms to the conducts of the new leadership, saying it was only through that that they would succeed.
Earlier in his address, the new State Chairman of NURTW, Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya congratulated Governor Bello and his Deputy, for their overwhelming victory in the last election, and described it as a victory for all.
He assured members that his administration was prepared to take the union to the next level and thanked the present government for its critical role that ensured the success of his team.
Alhaji Ibrahim used the occasion to express further gratitude to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathew Kolawole; the administrator of Lokoja Local Government Area, Hon Muhammed Dan’Asabe; the immediate past Commissioner for Transportation, Hon Mohammed Auwal; member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Bobby Ujah; Hon Ahmed Attah, among others for their solidarity with his group.
