Everything being equal, 200 communities in Igalaland would have been able to enjoy power supply in December this year compliment of the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello, the Operation Power Kogi East Committee has told the Attah of Igalaland, His Majesty, Michael Ameh – Oboni II.

The committee gave the submission today, Thursday, in Idah while giving the President of Kogi State Traditional Rulers a progress report on the project at his palace.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon Edward Onoja told the Attah that detailed field feasibility works have been carried out to ascertain the gaps that existed in Igalaland where the rural electrification is taking place to ensure that all glitches associated with the job would be surmounted on time.

He said the committee has also gone to the place where the major work would be carried out; which is being able to move electricity from the surplus area in Ajaokuta across River Niger to Igala axis.

“The exercise has been said to be the catalyst to ensure that Kogi East gets the kind of power that is sustainable and long lasting as it is obtainable in other parts of Nigeria and that would take the bulk of the funding for the project.

“What is currently available in terns of power is not sufficient to cater to the people of Kogi East – one of the most populated regions in the country.

Hon Onoja who is also the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor described light as one of the most important ingredients of any form of development, hence its necessity and the first command God gave at the inception of creation.

“God knows that without light any effort at development would be stagnated.

“You need light to effectively power water supply, run institutions like hospitals and schools among others. It is also important for investment concerns such as processing industries that would create jobs and to be able to have access to information. We live in a world where information is of the great importance for our existence.”

To Governor Bello, Hon Onoja noted, one of his purpose of serving the people of Kogi State is to be able to right the wrongs of the past and that is why he has committed the sum of N 1.5 billion in this year’s budget to Project Power Kogi East covering nine LGAs including Bassa, Dekina, Ankpa, Ofu, Omala, Olamaboro, Ibaji, Idah, Igalamela – Odolu.

He said the Governor has committed himself to the project of ensuring Igalaland got electricity and that is why several communities including the ones from where former Governors of the state originated got electricity supplies under the three and a half years of the present administration, especially communities in Omala and Dekina LGAs.

The committee chairman therefore urged the people of the area to continue to support the administration of Governor Bello in its desire to take the entire state to the next level of industrialisation and socioeconomic development.

In vote of thanks, the Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon Ahmed Mohammed who thanked the Royal Majesty for his fatherly role in the entire Igalaland, assured him of the commitment of Igala sons and daughters in the present Kogi State cabinet to attract development to the land.
