Kogi Government is Committed To Educational Development, says Commissioner

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, has restated the commitment of the State Government to the development of education across the state.

The commissioner gave the assurance when he received Gen. David Jemibewon (rtd) and former Minister of Police Affairs in his office in Lokoja on Thursday.

The Commissioner, who noted that he was highly honoured by the visit of the retired general, commended him for the growth of Kogi State especially in the area of education sector.

He specifically described Jemibewon’s International Academy Secondary School as one of the best private schools in the state, saying the school remains a pride to the state and Nigeria at large.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Yahaya Bello to moving the education sector forward in the state, saying, ”the governor is walking the talk”.

Jones added that the Education Law which would soon be passed and signed into law 29 years after its creation is aimed to regulate the educational system in the state.

The Commissioner also noted that very soon the School Adoption and Mentorship through Teaching and Motivational lectures which is targeted at bridging the gaps of moral decadence in the school system would become a reality.

These, among others, he said would turn around the fortune of education system in the state for better.

Earlier, Gen. Jemibewon rtd, said he was in the Commissioner’s office to partner with the ministry in the area of education and sport developments.

He lamented on the poor enrollment by prospective students in Jemibewon Int’l Academy Secondary School, saying the facilities in the school are grossly underutilized.

According to him, the school is established and well equipped with science laboratory for Biology, Chemistry, General Science and sport facilities, adding that the Boarding Facilities are excellent and one of the best in the country.
