Kogi Govt Launches Platform for Bursary Disbursement, Sets Registration Deadline

The Kogi state government has launched a platform for distributing bursary awards to indigent students attending tertiary institutions nationwide. This was made known during the unveiling ceremony in Lokoja on Monday.

The state Commissioner for Education, Hon Wemi Jones, in his address reaffirmed the dedication of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to enhancing student welfare and promoting education accessibility. He said the initiative, spearheaded by Governor Usman Ododo, builds on the progress initiated by the previous administration Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Jones noted that the State Government was committed to planning and adequately funding education in the state, using the state strategic plan with adequate budgetary provision, urging every student of the state in tertiary institutions across the country to log into the portal to enable them benefit from the scholarship, assuring that the process is seamless and transparent. “The portal opens for pre-qualification on April 16 and closes on April 30.” he added.

The Executive Chairman of Kogi State Scholarship Board, Mr. Afolabi Joseph Raji, clarified that the bursary is exclusively for Kogi-native students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, accessible through www.scholarshipboard.kogistate.gov.ng, even via smartphones, ensuring transparency in the process.

He clarified that following registration, the Board will draft a budget specifying the eligible recipients for the bursary award. He called on the National leadership of NAKOSS to help in mobilizing their members towards taking advantage of the Ododo Student Support 2024.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Student Affairs, Comrade Oladele John Nihi, emphasized the need for extensive awareness campaigns to reach all eligible students, advocating collaboration with the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) for nationwide dissemination.

Nihi assured students of governor Ododo’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign pledges, assuring that better things lie ahead for youths and students in Kogi State.

President of NAKOSS, Comrade Jeremiah Elukpo, on his part encouraged Kogi students to participate, highlighting the government’s genuine intentions.
