Kogi State Govt Recieves Female Author, Muyibat Yusuf, Pledges Ongoing Support for Education

In a move to bolster educational initiatives, the Kogi State government warmly received renowned female author, Ms. Muyibat Ovosuahi Yusuf, at the state capital.

Ms. Muyibat, a published writer, spoken word poet and a student leader hails from Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State. She is set to lunch her new book tittled “A Dream Like Mine”.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones who recieved the author on a courtesy visit to his office in Lokoja on Thursday, expressed gratitude for her dedication to promoting literacy and empowering youth through literature.

The Commissioner assured Ms. Muyibat of the state government’s unwavering support for educational endeavors, emphasizing the pivotal role of literature in fostering intellectual growth and societal development.

He said the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello laid a solid foundation for education advancement in the state by dedicating thirty per cent of the state’s total budget to education beating the UNESCO twenty-six per cent benchmark, adding that the current administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is fully commitment to consolidating on the gains recorded.

Jones reiterated the importance of investing in education as a cornerstone of progress, highlighting initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, curriculum development, and teacher training across Kogi State. He commended Ms. Muyibat for her advocacy especially in the area of girl child education and pledged continued collaboration to enhance literacy programs and cultivate a culture of learning among the state’s populace.

Earlier in her introduction, the award winning author, Ms. Muyibat Yusuf, lauded the government’s commitment to education and emphasized the transformative power of literature in shaping minds and shaping society. She expressed optimism about future collaborations to expand access to books, promote literacy campaigns, and inspire the next generation of writers and thinkers in Kogi State.

She said her new book which is scheduled to be lunched on the 23rd of April, 2024 in Abuja is written from a place of passion and the desire to add value to the society. The book talks about the impact of girl child education, the negative effects of bullying amongs others. The books has also been adopted by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for all states in Nigeria.

She used the opportunity to invite all government officials and the general public to the lunch.

Earlier, the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar through the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Suleiman Abdulrazaq, the chairman House Committee on Education, Hon Aliyu Idrees and Hon Jibril Abu (WisdomBank), member House Committee on Education had hitherto received Ms Muyibat Avusuahi Yusuf on her arrival to Kogi State.

Whilst promising to support her prowess to all lengths, the Speaker expressed pride in the fact that in the face of today’s society where young ladies have thrown morals to the bin, there are still witty and focused minds from Kogi State willing to make the state proud. The Speaker urged Muyibat to walk shoulder high in the feminine world whilst still impacting the world positively.

The Majority Leader and Hon. Jibril Abu thereafter led the author to the Hon Commissioner for Education.
