Kogi Information Commissioner Pledges FUL Partnership »

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, has pledged stronger collaboration between the ministry and students of Mass Communication at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL).

Fanwo made the commitment on Monday when the leadership of the Mass Communication Students’ Association (MACOSA) of the university visited him in his office.

The commissioner urged the students to approach the profession with diligence, determination and professionalism, describing mass communication as a noble career that requires commitment and continuous investment in personal development.

He encouraged the students to be intentional and meticulous in their studies and to invest their time and resources in acquiring the skills needed to excel in the profession.

“By virtue of your profession, you’re already a professional. This is your mother Ministry and we are very intentional about contributing to the quality of professionals that our schools produce because they will come back to us,” Fanwo said.

“If you want the best, you must invest properly, both the best of your time, the best of your advice, and of course, the best of your resources into ensuring that you produce the best.

“So you need to shape what you want to be now as you shape the society. You are agenda-setters,” he added.

Fanwo also reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration to transforming the information and education sectors, noting their importance to societal development.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Women Mobilisation, Charity Ijese, who also spoke during the visit, commended Fanwo for his leadership and efforts towards projecting the image of the state government.

Ijese said the students visited the commissioner to appreciate him for serving as a role model and demonstrating professionalism in the information and communications sector.

She said the students were particularly impressed by what she described as the achievements of the Ododo administration in communication, education and other critical sectors.

Ijese further disclosed that the Department of Mass Communication had selected Fanwo as the recipient of its 2026 Most Performing Commissioner for Information and Communications of the Year Award.

According to her, the award recognises his contributions to strengthening the communications sector, fostering a cordial relationship with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, and driving the Kogi State rebranding initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the President of the Department of Mass Communication, Federal University Lokoja, Musa Aishat, appreciated Fanwo for his contributions to the development of Kogi State, particularly in information and communications.

Aishat described the commissioner as a father figure and an inspiration to the students, saying the visit was also intended to commend his performance and contributions to the sector.
