Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo casts his vote in Upogoro during the local government elections, which he described as peaceful.

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting security efforts in the state, following the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s local government elections.

Ododo spoke shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit in Upogoro, where he expressed satisfaction with the atmosphere surrounding the exercise, describing it as a departure from the violence that previously characterised local government elections.

The governor attributed the peaceful conduct of the Kogi local government elections to improved security and the confidence it had given residents to participate in the democratic process without fear.

“In the past, Local Government elections used to be bloody. But we thank Mr President for giving us that confidence and supporting us to provide security for our people. You can see that Local Government elections are now just like a carnival,” Ododo said.

He described the exercise as peaceful, free and transparent, adding that the atmosphere reflected progress in efforts to address security challenges in the state.

Ododo also said his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property, with continued support from the Federal Government.

He urged Nigerians to recognise the resources and sacrifices required to maintain security, noting that the relative peace in Kogi State was the result of ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities.

According to the governor, the confidence with which residents and visitors move around the state underscores the importance of security to economic activities, social interaction and democratic participation.

Ododo further stated that he would not be distracted by controversies on social media, maintaining that his priority was to deliver good governance and safeguard the welfare of residents.

On the political climate, the governor said opposition parties remained an important part of democracy but should engage constructively and demonstrate their contributions to public service.

He challenged opposition parties to present their records of achievement and explain how their political platforms had contributed to the development of Kogi State and the well-being of its people.

The governor also expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC), crediting the party’s leadership, including Tinubu, with supporting the state’s development and security objectives.

Ododo said he left the electoral process in the hands of election officials after casting his vote, expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise.

He reiterated his appreciation to the President for the support extended to Kogi State and called on political stakeholders and residents to work together to sustain peace throughout the electoral process.

The governor stressed that security and credible elections were essential to democratic progress and effective grassroots governance in the state.
