Kogi NYCN hails Gov Bello for establishing Citizens' Rights Commission »

The Chairman, Kogi State Chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Israel Femi Alonge, has commended Governor Yahaya Bello for the successful establishment of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission (PDCRC), which is for the provision of legal services to indigent citizens of the State.

According to Comrade Alonge, “Gov. Yahaya Bello has by this singular act proven to the people once again that he is a people oriented and friendly governor especially to the tyrannized.”

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abraham Jacob Damilare, the chairman also recognized the State Attorney- General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr Ibrahim Sanni Muhammed, SAN, for this laudable initiative and for the visible critical transformation the sector is enjoying, noting that such a revered legal genius can never be left out as part of the brains behind this wonderful initiative.

It is clear that the core mandate of this commission remains the provision of free legal service to indigent citizens and residents of Kogi who may not be able to afford the services of lawyers, and protecting the Rights of every resident across the twenty one Local Government Areas. The Chairman therefore on this note, admonished indigent citizens especially the downtrodden to utilize this opportunity made available for them in order for them to reclaim Justice wherever it might have gone missing.

With the clear understanding that the commission is also saddled with the responsibility of providing legal representation in court for both civil and criminal matters, Comrade Alonge further enjoined the Commission to hold firm unto the long rope of integrity given to them to pull and prayed that the mandate and objectives of the Commission not be massacred on the altar of selfishness and breach of trust.

In addition, the chairman praised the appointment of Mr Abdullahi Zakari as the pioneer Director General of the Commission and also charged him to live up to the expectations invested in him both from the government and the core beneficiaries of the Commission being the indigent citizens especially the downtrodden.
