Kogi: SEC approves employment of 3700 teachers

Kogi State Executive Council has on Wednesday approved the employment of three thousand seven hundred teachers (3700 ) and the distribution of text books/instructional materials to over two hundred and eighty five (285) schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Hon. Rosemary Osikoya made this disclosure while briefing journalists shortly after the meeting that held at the EXCO Hall in Government House, Lokoja.

Hon. Osikoya said the effort was part of government’s measure to improve quality education in schools and urgently transform the system to meet the aspirational needs of the new generation.

According to her, the employment of additional teachers and the provision of text books/instructional material would strengthen and enhance effective learning, as students would no longer be in lack of teachers with basic modern teaching skills and essential learning materials.

In a related development, Council also approved the nomination of a new Agbana of Isanlu, a first class chief, Elder Moses Babatunde Elombi to fill the vacant traditional stool, following the demise of the immediate past Agbana, late Oba Aaron Ikuborije two years ago.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr Abubakar Ohere who revealed this, added that the present administration of Governor Bello would continue to hold in high regard matters that concerns traditional institutions in the state.

“In view of the promise made by His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello when he condoled with the good people of Isanlu on the death of their Royal Father, that he was going to allow transparency in the next appointment of their traditional ruler, we had to painstakingly search to allow due process in the emergence of the new leader,” he concluded.
