Kogi State is set to be the first beneficiary of the curriculum enrichment programmes of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC, earmarked for the second half of the current year.

The programmes, facilitated by the National Assembly would come up in two phases as teachers capacity building and students entrepreneurship/trade training.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB IION, on Tuesday, received officers from the Curriculum Development Centre of NERDC on a visit for preliminary plans before the commencement of the programmes in the state.

Hon. Jones who described the programmes as good gifts to the state, said the Ministry is ready to make huge success of them by full cooperation and partnership with NERDC.

He said the Yahaya Bello-led administration was already domesticating most national programmes on education and would gladly receive many more especially on teachers training and students development.

He promised to set up a committee to work with NERDC on best modalities for best results, assuring the team that experience gained from the state would lead them in the right direction in other future engagements.

Earlier the team lead who is also the Director of Curriculum Development Centre in NERDC, Dr. Garba D. Gandu said they were in the state to brief the Ministry on their upcoming programmes.

He said the team will be involved in training of teachers on effective implementation of secondary school curriculum and also in conducting entrepreneurship/trade training for students in selected secondary schools in the state.

He solicited the cooperation and guidance of the Ministry to make the programmes successful.
