Kogi State November Governorship poll: APC appoints young journalist, Yabagi Mohammed as head of Media and Publicity for Lokoja LGA
A young, vibrant and enterprising journalist, Yabagi Mohammed, has been appointed as the Chairman (Head) of Media and Publicity for Lokoja Local Government Area for the ruling APC for the November governorship poll in Kogi State.
A statement made available to journalists in Lokoja noted that Yabagi was appointed based on his track record of reportage as a media virtuoso.
Yabagi Mohammed hails from Cantonment in Ward B of Lokoja Local Government Area. He studied Mass Communication from Kogi State University, Anyigba, and Kaduna Polytechnic where he acquired his Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree and National Diploma (ND) respectively in the same course.
He was a nominee as the Best Writer in 2015 by the Nigeria Writers Awards (Campus Category) where emerged runner up.
Yabagi emerged winner of the inaugural Kogi Social Media Awards as the Most Outstanding Reporter of the Year in 2018, in addition to several campus based awards he won both at the Polytechnic and in the University.
The appointee began his journalism career early in life with the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation immediately after his secondary education where he was a regular contributor to programmes and then as a script writer. He eventually returned to the same organisation as an intern while studying in Kaduna Polytechnic.
On completion of his National Diploma programme in 2012, he joined The Graphic Newspaper on his one year Industrial Training. His knowledge of journalism, ability with words and writing prowess compelled the management of The Graphic to retain him as an auxillary staff after the completion of his training from where he later left for his degree programme in Kogi State University, Anyigba.
In addition to The Graphic, he started writing for The Nation Newspaper afterwards, gracing the paper’s Campus Life Page weekly with insightful features and news stories from the campus of the university and other higher institutions across Kogi state. Little wonder his nomination by Nigerian Writers Awards organisers in 2015 as the Best Writer.
The journalist, who is an online media guru began another voyage in his journalism career in 2017 when he took up a job with Insidestoryng, a vibrant and informative medium based in Lokoja, Kogi State as a content editor/reporter.
Yabagi Mohammed also served on the Media and Publicity sub – committee in Kogi State for the 2019 Presidential Election as the head of Online Media.
He loves watching and analysing football, listening to music, watching TV, reading, writing and swimming. He is a devout Chelsea fan and is married to Princess Aduke Bello.
