Kogi West NYCN makes Engr Bashir Gegu General Commanding Officer (GCO) to Lokoja/ Kotonkarfe youth »

For his gallantry and the bravery he displays in his political sojourn since his burst into the state’s political scene, the youths of Kogi West Senatorial District have made the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Abubakar Bashir Mohammed (Bashir Gegu) their General Commanding Officer (G.C.O).

The title was formally conferred on him on Tuesday at the palace of the traditional ruler in charge of Kotonkarfe Kingdom, His Majesty, Ohimegye Igu, Alhaji Abdulrazak Isa Koto by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

Speaking during the award conferment, the Kogi West Vice Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Abubakar Isa Ada’Abu described Engr Bashir as a man with unique disposition for impacting the society positively.

He said the Commissioner was a man that has made politics an avenue to impacting lives positively, societal development and youth empowerment which has seen many youth in the area being raised out of idleness.

Comrade Ada’Abu said the Kogi Local Government Area was blessed with people that have the leadership qualities required to make the area and the state great, adding that Engr Bashir has demonstrated that.

The Ohimegye Igu, Alhaji Abdulrazak Isa Koto had applauded the youth council for the choice of Engr Bashir Gegu as recipient of the award, saying he is a worthy ambassador of the area.

He maintained that the Local Government was proud to have an individual like Engr Bashir as an ambassador in government, stressing that he is utilising the opportunity given him judiciously and thanked the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the youth of the area for recognising his contribution to the growth of the Local Government and the state in general.

Reacting to the award, the State Chairman of the youth council, Comrade Israel Alonge and the State Chairman of the Coordinators Forum of the council, Comrade Umar Muhammed Bako Clerk said the choice of Engr Bashir was not in doubt given his show of compassion as one of them in the government of Yahaya Bello.

They therefore said justification for the choice of the awardee was not far-fetched in view of his positive disposition to issues that concern the youth of Lokoja / Kotonkarfe Federal Constituency and how to improve their well being.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner expressed gratitude to the youths of the area for the award and thanked Kogi State Govenror, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for giving him the opportunity to serve in his cabinet and bring his wealth of experience to bear.

He promised to always make the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello proud, saying that if not for the opportunity he has been given, there was no way he would have been able to prove his mettle.
