Emir of Zazzau Backs NAHCON Reforms, Urges Better Hajj Administration

The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has pledged the support of the traditional institution for ongoing reforms by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), urging the commission to sustain efforts to improve efficiency and service delivery in Hajj administration.
Bamalli made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The Emir commended NAHCON’s leadership for its efforts to improve Hajj operations despite the complexities involved in coordinating the pilgrimage for one of Africa’s largest contingents of pilgrims.
He said effective Hajj administration required foresight, transparency, discipline and meticulous planning, stressing that the welfare, safety and spiritual fulfilment of Nigerian pilgrims should remain central to the commission’s policies and operations.
“We are here to offer our prayers, counsel, and support to NAHCON. We also urge the Commission to sustain its drive toward structural efficiency, early preparations, and transparent communication to overcome recurring operational challenges,” Bamalli said.
The Emir also pledged the continued support of the Zazzau Emirate and the wider traditional institution for initiatives aimed at sensitising intending pilgrims and promoting compliance with Hajj guidelines.
He said greater awareness and adherence to established guidelines would contribute to a smoother pilgrimage experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
Responding, NAHCON Chairman Ismail Abba Yusuf expressed appreciation for the visit, describing the engagement as encouraging for the commission’s management and staff.
Yusuf said the counsel and support of traditional leaders were valuable to NAHCON’s efforts to improve service delivery and strengthen engagement with stakeholders.
He briefed the Emir on strategic initiatives being implemented by the commission, including policy reforms, digital innovations and partnerships aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing costs.

According to him, the initiatives also cover accommodation and feeding arrangements as well as measures to ensure a more seamless airlift process for pilgrims.
The NAHCON chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to developing a modern, responsive and pilgrim-centred Hajj administration system that meets global best practices and the expectations of Nigerian pilgrims.
He further assured the Emir that the observations and recommendations made during the visit would receive due consideration as the commission intensifies preparations for future Hajj operations.
The engagement highlighted the role of traditional institutions in supporting pilgrim education, community engagement and stakeholder cooperation in Nigeria’s Hajj administration.
