The Nigerian Police has been described as the best police force in the world.

A retired police officer and traditional ruler, the Ohimege-Igu, Alhaji Abdulrazak Isa-Koto stated this in an address he delivered at the launch of Police Inspector General, Muhammed Adamu’s Operation Puff Adder in Lokoja, Kogi State.

According to the royal father, the Nigerian police by orientation and overall training always excels when it faces its contemporaries from other parts of the world because an average Nigerian Policeman is exposed to the best training in the world.

He was however quick to state that the police were handicapped because of the environment they find themselves and called on members of the public to assist the men of the force by volunteering relevant information that would enable them fight crime effectively.

Alhaji Isah-Koto who stressed that Nigerians need to have a rethink about their views of the police, called on the officers to also play their part in ensuring a positive public perception.

He said the traditional institution in Kogi State and many parts of the country was dominated by ex-servicemen, hence the willingness of the present Police IG to work closely with them because of their commitment to assisting security agencies in rooting out criminals from their domains.

The traditional ruler who also represented the President of Kogi State Council of Traditional Rulers, Dr. Michael Ameh-Oboni, enjoined government at all levels to provide necessary funding for the police so they could give their best to the public.

He then thanked other security agencies including the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, the Customs and others for their unwavering support to the police and urged them to sustain it.
