Ododo All Campus Games: Idah College Backs Maiden Edition »

The College of Health Sciences, Idah, has endorsed the maiden edition of the Gov. Ododo All Campus Games, with its Provost, Umar Anataku Shaibu, assuring the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the institution’s full participation in the competition.

Shaibu gave the assurance during an endorsement meeting with the LOC, where he commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving and supporting the inter-tertiary sporting competition.

The Provost said the initiative would provide students across tertiary institutions in Kogi State with an opportunity to test their abilities, compete and prepare for challenges beyond the academic environment.

According to him, the Governor’s support for the games demonstrates the administration’s commitment to youth development and the discovery of sporting talents across the state.

He added that the significance of the competition extended beyond medals and trophies, as it would expose students to healthy competition while promoting confidence, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Shaibu also commended the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development for initiating the competition, describing it as timely and commendable.

He said the College of Health Sciences, Idah, was prepared to participate and compete strongly for honours.

“We are happy to be part of this initiative. Our students are ready, our institution is ready, and we are looking forward to making a strong showing,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the LOC, Michael Achor Joshua, thanked the management of the institution for receiving the committee and responding positively to the games.

Joshua assured participating institutions that the LOC would provide a level playing field, giving every school an equal opportunity to compete and showcase its sporting talents.

He explained that the competition was designed not only as a sporting contest but also as a platform for identifying, nurturing and promoting young talents across Kogi State.

According to him, participating institutions would compete in selected sporting events under rules and guidelines aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency and healthy competition.

The LOC chairman urged the 13 participating institutions to approach the games in the spirit of unity, love and peace, stressing that the competition should serve as an avenue to bring students together rather than create division.

He said the ultimate objective was to identify promising sporting talents in Kogi State and create opportunities for them to develop their abilities and potentially represent the state at higher levels.

“The essence of this competition is not just about who wins or loses. It is about bringing out the best in our young people and giving them a platform to show what they can do. We want to discover talents that can make Kogi proud,” Joshua said.

The meeting ended with the College of Health Sciences, Idah, reaffirming its readiness to participate fully in the maiden edition of the Gov. Ododo All Campus Games.

The engagement also strengthened the relationship between the LOC and participating institutions as preparations continue for the competition, which is expected to bring students from across Kogi State together through sports and talent development.
