Ododo Hails Tinubu’s Security Investments, Inspects 21 Battalion Barracks in Anyigba

Says Kidnapping, Armed Robbery Declining as Criminals Lose Ground in Kogi

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his sustained investments in Nigeria’s security sector, describing the President’s support for security agencies as instrumental to the significant reduction of crime across Kogi State.

Governor Ododo made the remarks during an inspection visit to the newly established 21 Battalion Barracks in Anyigba on Tuesday, where he assessed operational facilities and interacted with military personnel deployed to the area.

The Governor described the rapid establishment and operational readiness of the military formation as a clear indication of President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening security and supporting state governments in tackling insecurity.

According to him, the deployment of the military battalion has greatly improved security in Kogi East, resulting in a sharp decline in cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, communal clashes, and other criminal activities that previously threatened peace in the region.

“I am here today to appreciate the gallant officers and men who make daily sacrifices to ensure the safety of our people. Since your deployment, the security situation in Kogi East has improved significantly. Cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities have reduced drastically,” Ododo said.

The Governor stated that sustained security operations have made Kogi State increasingly hostile to criminal elements, emphasizing that the state is no longer a safe haven for criminals.

“Criminals now understand that Kogi State is not fertile ground for their activities. There is no market for criminality in our state, and we will continue to pursue them until they have nowhere to hide,” he added.

Ododo also commended President Tinubu for providing strategic support to sub-national governments in the fight against insecurity, noting that collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments has strengthened efforts to protect lives and property.

“President Tinubu has been supportive of state governments in addressing security challenges. While he cannot be physically present in every state, we serve as partners in implementing security measures that keep our communities safe,” the Governor said.

He further disclosed that the Federal Government has approved the provision of air support for security operations whenever necessary, describing the move as a major boost to ongoing efforts against criminal elements.

“Whenever we require air support, approval has been granted to ensure it is made available. This demonstrates the President’s commitment to equipping security agencies with the resources needed to combat insecurity effectively,” he stated.

Governor Ododo equally acknowledged the contributions of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Chief of Army Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and other security chiefs for their coordinated efforts in enhancing security nationwide.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to public safety, the Governor stressed that security would remain a top priority of his government.

“No amount of resources is too much when it comes to saving lives and protecting property. We will continue to support security agencies with everything necessary to safeguard our people because meaningful development can only thrive in a secure environment,” he said.

The Governor also commended the Commanding Officer of the 21 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Godiya Solomon Monday, for his leadership and dedication, while praising officers and soldiers of the battalion for their professionalism, patriotism, and selfless service.

“You are rendering invaluable service to the nation. Though your sacrifices may not always be adequately rewarded, history will remember your dedication and commitment. We are proud of you and will continue to support your efforts,” he said.

Ododo assured military authorities that the Kogi State Government would sustain its support for security agencies to consolidate recent gains, particularly as farmers prepare for the planting season.

He urged the troops to remain focused on their mandate of protecting communities and maintaining peace, expressing confidence that the combined efforts of the Federal Government, the military, and other security agencies would ultimately eliminate security threats across the state.
