PIBCID backs Community Policing to check rising cases of rape
The Executive Director of PIBCID, Actionaid partner in Kogi State, Halima Oiza Sadiq, has frowned at the rising cases of Rape and other violence perpetrated against women, says Community Policing has the propensity to check what she describes as the monster facing the country.
The Executive Director stated this at a 2 Day Training of Police Officers in Kogi State on Strengthening Community Policing/PCRC organized by actionaid Nigeria, in Okene, says with Community Policing which would be lead to engagement with concerned stakeholders, the current evil against women would be nipped in the bud.
She described the current structure of the Nigerian Police as no longer workable, insisting that the people in need of the policing need to have involvement.
Community Policing she explained would help build confidence for victims to share experience and allow for arrest of culprits.
The training which was organized by ActonAid Nigeria is with funding from global community engagement and resilience funds, is aimed at preventing violent extremism and promoting peaceful coexistence among vulnerable communities.
Participants at the training are expected to extend the training to other officers in their respective divisions across the 21 local government of the state.
In a paper Presentation, Ajayeoba Olugbenga Ayodeji, says police alone cannot do the policing of the country alone any longer, says it requires the support of everyone.
In a paper titled, strategy and benefits of Community policing; lessons sharing, says it has become expedient for Community Policing that would be relevant to the people as the Federal policing seem to have lost its relevance.
