Protest over Tanker accident leaves travelers stranded as angry mob block Lokoja-Abuja road

The Felele-Natako junction stretch of the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway is currently locked down, with passengers finding it impossible to enter or leave Lokoja the capital of Kogi State.

Commuters currently stranded on that road told InsideStory that angry youths have set barricades on both sides of the road in protest of what they termed as ‘continued reckless driving’ by Tanker drivers which has led to a ‘repeated’ killing of people in the area, including students of the close by Kogi State Polytechnic.

A protester who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said they are angered by what seamed to be a yearly occurrence. He said if Tanker drivers can’t maintain the speed limit on the road, they should stop using the road. ‘we are tired of burying our loved ones every year because of Tanker drivers.’ he said.

As of 10:00am, the gridlock had reached over 5km stretch on both sides.

Kogi State Government has also deployed Police and traffic management officials to the scene of the accident to restore order as of press time.
