Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Mrs Rashida Bello has added her voice to condemned gender-based violence against women and the girl child abuse which includes early marriage amongst others.

Mrs Rashida Bello made this known through the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Ejura Mercy Onoja on Friday in Lokoja after a walk that ended in Government House as part of activities designed by her office to mark the “16 Days Activism Campaign to end violence/abuse against Women and the Girl Child.

According to her, a psychologically damaged girl child from the negative effects of violence and abuse translates to damaged society as women are the custodians of the home.

Wife of the Governor appealed to women to pass across the message of ending violence and abuse against the female gender to the larger society to ensure all hands are on deck to address the menace.

Her words: The message is very clear. There should be no rape, there should be no girl child abuse, because without the girl child there is no nation and we can not raise damaged girl children, because we will end up having a damaged nation.

“Please keep preaching the message. It should not be tolerated around you, nor your immediate environment, do the little you should, in lending your voice”.

Mrs Bello while urging the women to always feel free to approach relevant authorities and agencies to report cases of intimidation, rape and violence against women without delay for necessary actions, added that the fight needs the commitment of all to win.
