Revamping SME sector: CBN moves to collaborate with KEDA

The managing director/ CEO Kogi Enterprise Development Agency, KEDA Hajiya Rekiya Onaivo Sanni has solicited the support and collaboration of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter in a bid to drive the SME sector of the state.

According to Hajiya Sanni, the courtesy visit became neccesary as parts of KEDA’s efforts to form multiple approaches to solving all the problems bedevilling the SME sector of the State as well as get technical partners and assistance that will stimulate the mindset of the people, generate ideas and in turn, transform the economy of the State.

In a courtesy visit to CBN office,Lokoja, alongside KEDA management staff, Hajiya Sanni maintained that, there are enormous advantages for the SME sector of the state with the collaboration of CBN as it has the capacity to strengthen and enhance the scope of the SMEs.

She said technical advise and support from the CBN will go a long way in bringing about a purposeful outcome.

In his remarks, the head of Development Finance Office, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Hassan alongside his team expressed satisfaction with the collaboration being solicited by KEDA.

Mr Hassan is of the opinion that with the establishment of KEDA, an independent SME drive outfit, and the rich potentials that abounds in Kogi State, there is going to be a turn around if the government can fully harness and utilize it’s resources immediately.

He said CBN is interested in financing programs that can grow the economy, adding that,if the SME sector must thrive, there is need for close collaboration with KEDA.

He however expressed worries over the winding up of Micro Financial Institutions in the State compared to other States of the Federation, submitting that, the development is not a good omen for a state seeking economic development.

He said more cooperatives needs to to be built up, and capacity more trainings should be initiated especially in the Fashion industry and the Agricultural sector of the State as they form key areas that can give a multiplier effects and create job opportunities.
