Road construction gets N15.7 b in 2020 Kogi State Budget

Kogi State Government has earmarked the sum of ₦ 15.7 billion for road construction to encourage rural development across the state.

This much was made public by the Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on on Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Asiwaju Idris on Wednesday at the Government House, Lokoja during the breakdown of the 2020 ‘Budget of Prosperity.’

Hon Asiwaju said the Present administration has renewed it’s commitment to meeting the yearnings and expectations of the people of the state, pointing out that five hundred kilometers of roads in the rural communities would also be rehabilitated, and most of these roads, he noted, would be flagged off before the end of the first quarter of the year.

He maintained that such gesture reflects the love and sentiment Governor Bello has for people in the rural communities, noting that he is poised than ever to make life easier for them.

On the housing scheme, Asiwaju explained that part of the N5.4 billion set aside for housing and urban development would be invested in the construction of 3 bedroom bungalow of One thousand houses for the state civil servants.

The gesture, he disclosed, is borne out of the desire of government to provoke productivity in the civil service by ensuring their welfare is given a topmost priority.

Asiwaju, who was the immediate commissioner for finance and economic development in the state, reiterated the determination of government in ensuring 70 per cent implementation of it’s capital expenditure of fifty – five percent of the total budget estimate of N 176.12 billion.

Government, he maintained, would also expend about N 1.95 billion on power scheme, which include, rural electrification projects across the state.

This year’s budget, he noted, was envisioned to among other things, enhance quality and access to education, health care as well as the completion of ongoing projects like the diagnostic and imaging centre in Lokoja, the state capital.

In his contribution, Special Adviser on Information and Communication to Governor Bello, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo, expressed optimism in the capacity of the administration to ensuring optimal realization of the budget objectives and aspiration.

Governor Bello, he restated, is a promise keeping leader, and assured that he would not renege on his covenant with the people, which is premised on building a state that is inclusive, peaceful, United and prosperous.
