School Adoption Programme: Kogi LG Auditor General Donates Science Textbooks to 148 Public Schools in Kogi East

Kogi State Auditor General for Local Government, Alh. Usman Ododo has continued distribution of Chemistry and Physics Textbooks under the School Adoption Programme of the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

The School Adoption Programme is an innovation by the State Government to encourage those who have the well withal to support the growth of education in the state.

At an event for the formal distribution of the materials to school which held at Our Lady of Schools, Ayingba earlier today, the Special adviser to governor Yahaya Bello on education, science and technology and a seasoned communicator, Dr Gabriel Ottah, while appreciating the governor for prioritizing education in the New Direction administration, applauded the Auditor General of Local Government, Hon. Usman Ododo for keying into the vision of the governor.

“Today I must commend Alhaji Usman Udodo for sponsoring the production of 11,000 physics and Chemistry textbooks to all the public schools in the three senatorial districts of the state, this donation will go a long way in spreading knowledge across the state as part of his contributions to the mentorship and school adoption program.

Ottah urged the ministry of education and other well-meaning individuals to also prioritise the production of textbooks cutting across arts & humanities, sciences and other areas of study as all these areas also play important roles in the build-up of knowledge.

On his part, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon Wemi Jones, praised governor Yahaya Bello for making teaching a learning a top priority, with education receiving 30% of the 2022 appropriate budget, surpassing the UNESCO’s education budget benchmark of 26%. He stated that this has made the ministry accomplish a lot, especially in the establishment, remodelling and procurement of equipment to aid learning in government schools across the state.

Speaking further, the education helmsman stated that education becomes difficult without the necessary materials to aid learning, thus the need for the publication of Science textbooks, particularly Physics and Chemistry.

Jones stated that with the distribution of these texts, students in Kogi state will be able to keep up with the advancement in learning, particularly in science, that has transformed the world in recent times. He thanked Alhaji Usman Ododo for sponsoring the publication of the textbooks to be distributed across the state, adding that he has invested in the future of the state and country.

The Commissioner stated that the textbooks are totally free for students in secondary schools especially those in SS2 and therefore warned that the distributed text are not to be sold or hoard by principals or staff.

He called on well-meaning citizens to join hands with the government in ensuring that education is given the appropriate priority to secure a better future for Kogi State.

In their separate vote of thanks, the President, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr Robert Awodi, and Mr Ojo Ranti, the State Chairman, Academic Staff Union Of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), both appreciated the donor, Alhaji Usman Ododo for extending the distribution of the textbooks across the state.

The unions commended the governor for giving approval for elongation service years and retirement age for teachers in the state.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, on Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Dan Ogbole warned students to shun examination malpractice and other social vices as all necessary materials to aid learning have been made available. He encouraged students to prioritize reading as that is the only prerequisite to success.

Some of the students, Fatima Yusuf from Holy Rosery College, Idah; Umar Farouk, and Goodness Egbunu from Community Secondary, Abocho, in a brief with pressmen on behalf other students, thanked governor Yahaya Bello, Hon Wemi Jones, and Alhaji Usman Ododo for providing textbooks to aid their learning.

She stated further that the textbooks came at a crucial period when their exams is eminent and promised on behalf of others to be good students while being obedient to the instructions of their teachers.
