In a decisive crackdown on organized crime, security forces have successfully eliminated a notorious drug Kingpin, Sumaila Ata, popularly known as “Summy”, operating in the Igalamela-Odolu local government area. Acting on intelligence gathered over months of meticulous investigation, law enforcement agencies launched a targeted operation to apprehend the elusive criminal figure.

Reports indicate that the operation culminated in a dramatic confrontation between the security personnel and the drug syndicate, who attempted to escape on his motorcycle resulting in the fatal neutralization of the kingpin. Sources close to the operation reveal that the kingpin, known for orchestrating a network of illicit drug trafficking and distribution, had long evaded law enforcement efforts to bring him to justice.

On the 19th of April, 2024, the agencies again got credible intelligence that the suspect (now deceased) had gotten delivery of a huge cache of illicit and banned drugs for illegal sale to unwitting youths and swung into action to capture the suspect to forestall a further destruction of the existence and growth of the misled youths and elders of the Local Government.

Upon getting to the spot where they tracked the demised suspect, members of his gang attempted to block the security agents in a bid to scuttle his arrest. He on the other hand mounted his red motorbike and attempted to flee the area. Security agents whilst in pursuit saw him pull out a gun and thereafter gunned him down.

Reacting to the incident, the Transition Committee Chairman of Igalamela-Odolu local government area, Hon Cosmas Atabor said, “despite the fact that the death of the young man is regrettable, we must as a community appreciate and understand the job being carried out by all security agencies in ensuring all social ills and crimes are stamped out for the good of our people.”

“It is imperative that I disabuse the mind of all and sundry with respect to a post sent out by one Opaluwa Omera wherein he claimed that I have given out a list of 10 to be liquidated by the security agencies.
The security agencies acted on verified and actionable intelligence to embark on arresting the said Sumaila Ata. There is no list submitted anywhere for liquidation purposes”, he added.

Cosmas urged all citizens of Igalamela/Odolu and indeed Kogi State to know that he promotes peace and non-violence, and called on the said Opaluwa Omera and his co-travellers to not play politics with all information they get and to ensure they verify all and any information given to them before sharing same on social media.

He enjoined youths and other indigenes and residents of the area to join hands in the fight to eliminate all traits of crimes and criminality within the local government, Kogi State and indeed Nigeria as a whole.
